Flamer has lost his family (not his father) because he could not control his powers of fire. It was all Flamer's fault that his family was dead but he was on a mission to control his powers. That is why he needs to be part of a group so he can master his powers. He is part of the good side and wants to stop the evil. He is also a member of the Flaming Stars the most powerful fire mages in history.
